Abbie J. Smith is the Boris and Irene Stern Distinguished Service Professor of Accounting at the University of Chicago Booth School of Business. She has taught and conducted research in financial reporting, corporate governance, and capital markets since joining Chicago's faculty in 1980 following completion of her PhD at Cornell University. She received the McKinsey Award for Excellence in Teaching in 1990. She is a co-editor of the Journal of Accounting Research, and a director of DFA Investment Dimensions Group Inc. and Dimensional Investment Group Inc., Chicago-based UBS Funds, HNI Corp., and Ryder System, Inc.
